What Hair Grades Actually Measure
There is no global regulator for hair grades, which is why grading only means something when the manufacturer publishes a written spec behind each letter. In practice, four physical properties move the grade: cuticle alignment, drawn ratio (how many strands run full length), thickness at the tip and processing load.
At Suvita we do not sell by grade letter. We sell three hair types, each with a written definition: raw (single donor), virgin (2–3 matched donors aged 20–30) and Remy (3–5 matched donors aged 20–30). All three last a minimum of 3–5 years with proper care.

None of the three ranks above the others on quality. Separately from the label, a bundle can be single drawn or double drawn.
The visible difference is at the ends. Single-drawn hair is naturally beautiful but thins towards the tip because the ponytail contains mixed lengths. Double-drawn hair has short strands removed by hand, so a 22" bundle looks 22" from top to bottom — heavier, denser and more expensive to produce.
Single or Double Drawn: What to Stock
Many resellers carry two options, not one:
- Single drawn to win first-time customers on price.
- Double drawn for clients who want the same fullness from top to ends.
Distributors serving mixed markets split inventory between the two according to their customer mix. Every Suvita hair type lasts a minimum of 3–5 years with proper care; what changes between single and double drawn is fullness to the ends.
How to Test the Grade You Received
- Tip test: hold the bundle upside down. Double-drawn hair keeps its width to the last inch.
- Weight test: weigh after unpacking; a bundle sold as 100 g should weigh close to 100 g.
- Comb test: well-made wefts shed few strands on a full wet comb-through.
- Heat test: flat-iron a small section at 180°C — unprocessed hair bounces back to texture after washing.
- Colour lift test: unprocessed hair with intact cuticles lifts to #613 more evenly; hair that was already chemically processed often turns straw-like.
